Moscow, April 21. - The state and prospects for the development of trade and economic cooperation between Russia and Sweden were discussed by Mr. Denis Manturov, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation and Mrs. Malena Mård, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Sweden to Russia.

The parties discussed the current state of trade and economic relations, as well as the potential for cooperation in a number of new and promising areas. Special attention was paid to the activities of the Russian-Swedish Steering Committee for Trade and Economic Cooperation, as well as the organization of the 17th session of the committee in October 2021 in Stockholm.

I have received a letter from the Minister for Foreign Trade of Sweden, Mrs. Anna Hallberg. It is with pleasure that I accept her invitation to come to Stockholm in October and hold the next session of the Steering Committee for Trade and Economic Cooperation. Full-format meetings of the committee have not been held since the distant 2013, when we held a meeting in St. Petersburg together with my then counterpart, Mrs. Eva Björling, noted Denis Manturov.

Another important topic of the meeting was the participation of the Swedish delegation in the events of SPIEF-2021 and INNOPROM-2021. The Swedish side always takes an active part in the International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg.

At the end of the meeting, Denis Manturov noted the negative dynamics in the bilateral trade of states, which was the inevitable consequence of the pandemic and the restrictions imposed due to COVID-19. Despite this, the Minister expressed confidence in the possibility of changing this situation.

I hope that by joint efforts we will be able to reverse these negative trends. Moreover, we have a good base for development - more than 500 Swedish companies work in Russia, including ABB, Essity, IKEA, Volvo, Scania, SKF, etc. The latter, by the way, intends to conclude a Special Investment Agreement (SPIC) for the production of bearings. The results of the competition will be announced in mid-May, emphasized Denis Manturov.
